Making Online Content Accessible for All - Cohort Five
Making Online Content Accessible for All is a 6-week faciliated course designed to equip professionals with the skills to create and evaluate accessible digital content.
Focusing on the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2), this course teaches practical strategies to make e-Learning and online courses usable for all learners, including those with disabilities.
Over six weeks, participants will explore best practices for ensuring accessibility through hands-on activities, scenarios, and evaluation tools.
Facilitated by Dr. Nicole L'Etoile, CPACC , in partnership with the Instructional Design Institute, with excellent resources, self-paced segments, weekly connections, and feedback.
Learning Objectives:
- Apply the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines to design and remediate digital content.
- Audit accessibility issues in alignment with current standards. (Follow the W3C method).
- Create a final project that demonstrates proficiency in applying WCAG, auditing digital content, and communicating results.
Course Outline:
- Week 1: Learn the basics of digital accessibility, exploring models of disabilities, the significance of accessibility, and an introduction to the WCAG 2.2 guidelines.
- Week 2: Focus on creating content that is perceivable for all learners, with emphasis on visual and auditory accessibility strategies.
- Week 3: Design operable, navigable, and user-friendly interfaces that cater to a broad audience, including those using assistive technologies.
- Week 4: Simplify language and structure to enhance the clarity and predictability of your content.
- Week 5: Ensure your content is compatible with a variety of technologies and devices, including screen readers.
- Week 6: Evaluate and audit your digital content using industry tools.
- Final Project: Submit an audit of an online course or digital content, demonstrating your ability to apply the WCAG 2.2 standards.
